Can AI predict if a fish will strike on a fly? Ben Taylor, Chief AI Evangelist at DataRobot decided to find out. Ben gathered a group of data scientists and outdoor enthusiasts from Snowflake, NVIDIA and DataRobot, and set off into the backcountry to explore.
The team set up GoPros and got to work, aiming to cast a fly 10,000 times and capture it on video. Computer vision was then used to process the video and draw insights, eventually building a dataset that could be used to improve a caster’s chances at catching a fish.
Previously, 90% of the effort behind AI was used to find the best way to solve a problem, but now, 90% of the effort is spent on identifying what problem you want to solve. If AI predictions can be used to help you catch a fish, what else can it be used for?
